For example, a horse rider might have a blog about horse riding, and the contents of that blog would be all about how she learnt to ride, what equipment she uses, what her thoughts are about various aspects of riding, competing, or just enjoying her life with horses. Someone else might have a blog about traveling, and he might post updates on the new places he’s seen, what he has experienced there, and what advice he offers fellow travelers. As you can imagine there is no limit to the types of blogs and thousands more are started each week.

There are thousands of plug-ins available and more are being devised all the time.
* Widgets – like plug-ins, widgets enhance the display or add to the functions on the site. * Blogroll – a list of links to other blogs that the author recommends
* Theme – each blog design is known as a theme. There are many hundreds freely available and there are commercially produced themes which anyone can buy. Some bloggers even go as far as having a theme tailor made to their specifications.
How do I get started?
If you are familiar with using the Internet and sending email then getting started in blogging should be very easy for you. You don’t need to know how to build a web site and you won’t need to learn any new skills. All you need to do is register for a free blog at one of the many sites that offer this service. For example, there’s Wordpress, Blogger, or Technorati. Once you’ve registered at one of these sites you can start one or several blogs. As a beginner you’ll probably want to start just the one for now so that you can learn the basics and get used to the various areas. Make good use of the FAQ pages and User Guides on any of these sites. They are generally clear and easy to understand and are there to help you.
Your First Blog
So you’ve registered and created your first blog – now what? Well, this is the fun part, or the difficult part depending on your point of view. The important thing is to adopt the habit of posting as frequently as possible. Add fresh content to your blog as often as you possibly can. This will probably be easy at first, especially if you have started a blog about your favourite pastime or hobby. You’ll be enthusiastic and you’ll have plenty to say so by all means add plenty of posts, but keep something back so that you can keep up the momentum of posting as the weeks pass by.
In my next article I will describe how to enhance the look and feel of your blog, how to interact with other bloggers, and how to make your blog more attractive to search engines so that people will find it. After all, you’ve decided to express yourself so you will need to know how to attract some blog readers!

As the recession sets in, commercial enterprise begins the struggle of staying afloat during an economic downtown. The days of profit taking are now in the rear-view mirror as businesses strive to stay economically viable, while the economy works to right itself. Even the most profitable, most stable companies of yesteryear are finding these times tough. We have all heard the struggles of companies such as Ford, Chevrolet and Chrysler, but other known companies such as Disney, Marriott, and United Airlines are working hard to weather this economic storm.
As a consumer, you and I will begin to see special offers thrown at us, in an effort to attract our dollars to these major travel industry providers. To date, one of the more aggressive companies in the travel discount offers has been the Walt Disney corporation. Whether you are seeking to travel to Disney Land in California or Walt Disney World in Florida, you will find a large variety of discount specials designed to attract your vacation dollars to Disney properties.
Disney World Specials
One such special currently being offered by Walt Disney World is a Buy 4 Get 3 For Free special. We originally mentioned this special in December of 2008, and the special was originally slated to end in December, but now in February of 2009, that special is still ongoing. With this package, if you buy four nights at Disney World, you will get three more nights for free. That is a wonderful special offer.
If you live near an AirTran Airways hub airport, you can get significant air travel discounts for your seven days at Walt Disney World Resorts, when you order your air travel with your Disney vacation. AirTran serves has routes into and out of airports mostly on the East Coast, but also in the Midwest and Plain states, as well as a few western airports. Visit the AirTran website to learn more specific information about the routes that they serve.
If you are planning for a Spring Break getaway, select Walt Disney Resorts are also offering a $74 per night special.
Now, my kids are too young for those dream Disney vacation deals, so I have to look elsewhere for my travel specials. My kids love visiting zoos and animal parks, so that is what we usually do on vacation.
San Diego Zoo Specials
To find the kinds of travel deals I look for, visit any of the zoo websites and you could be very impressed by the travel specials that they offer. For example, the San Diego Zoo is offering wonderful family travel packages. You can get three days and two nights for a family of four, complete with hotel rooms and zoo tickets, for only $144. This package is regularly priced at $534.
For the San Diego Wild Animal Park Safari, you can get the same three days and two nights in a hotel with tickets to the Safari, for only $164. This package also normally retails for $534.
Given that the San Diego Zoo is offering their packages for two-thirds off the regular rate, it is clear that the Zoo is willing to throw away a lot of profits, just to keep the cash registers ringing.
Don’t Be Afraid To Shop Around
Many of the travel destinations that you and I would like to visit, have an online presence in the form of a website dedicated to share information about a given destination.
If you have a travel destination that you would like to visit this summer, don’t be shy about seeing if they have a website. If you do, you might just find that the destination is offering some pretty handsome travel deals this spring and summer.

If you’re wondering why people blog in today’s society there are as many answers as there are people. However, there is one answer that seems to be the overwhelmingly most popular reason for blogging-to be heard. We live in a world that is becoming more and more disconnected and people are going ten thousand directions, families are getting lost in the shuffle, and it is very likely that a person can feel so terribly alone in a room of ten thousand. We are disconnected despite our many connections. We have cell phones, email, PDAs, hand held computers, iPods, text messaging, we are more able than at any other time in our history to stay connected and communicate with each other and feel more than at any other point in the history of the world that we are never really heard.
If you’ve ever felt like this, then blogging may be a wonderful arena in which you can be heard. You can spread your message, have your say, and it is quite likely that people will respond to what you have to say and either share your opinion or disagree rather prolifically. Bloggers tend to travel in packs and develop rather tight and close knit communities. There are many communities that are dedicated to different people with different levels and experiences of blogging.
While it is quite possible to begin a blog and write daily and with dedication in hopes that someone will hear your message and begin a dialog, it is much better to be proactive in the generation of traffic to your blog. Find a method that you feel comfortable with. Many people have had massive success simply by leaving thoughtful or thought provoking comments on the blogs of others. This is actually a great way to generate traffic if a bit time consuming. However, if you want to be heard this is a great way to be heard by many audiences that may not have gotten the message you wish to share otherwise.
You will find that there are blogs on as many different topics as there are moods. I’ve seen excellent blogs on shoes, sheets, politics, comedy, current events, and celebrity gossip, the latest music group–even on cleaning products (I personally thought it was a waste of a perfectly good day to put that much thought into cleaning products, but it worked for her). The fact is that there is no right or wrong subject to blog about and if you are passionate about something that is probably the best thing for you to blog about. Chances are, if you’re passionate about it, someone else is as well and you will have an audience once you learn to reach them.
Chances are if you feel you have something worth saying, there is someone out there, who is willing to listen to what you have to say. Even in today’s disconnected world. It seems silly that perfect strangers are often the people more likely to really hear what we have to say than those who are closest to us. Perhaps one day, you can encourage them to hear what you have to say or at the very least to read your blog.
